What did we do in Rotary's Centennial Year, 2004-05?

  • Cleaned the park for the Fiddlers Festival & manned a booth all weekend to support the efforts of the community in this new venture.

  • Club members donated time to the snack shack at the pool every Friday all summer long, working in 4 hour shifts

  • Participated in the Old Timers Rodeo with a food booth.

  • The club continues to work on a recruitment plan and conducted a fireside meeting for new rotarians.

  •  District Simplified Grant of $3500 provided equipment to provide network system and internet service for the Scott Valley Family Resource Center (FOCUS).  We remodeled the room, installed counters and equipment.

  • Although the centennial project was finished early, we continued to keep the centennial spirit alive by completing several little projects with the theme of 100 years. 100 cans of food for the Salvation Army Distribution Center, $100 $10 bills given to the Fort Jones fire Department, 100 small stuffed animals given to the Etna ambulance to distribute to children that might have to be in the ambulance, 100# of food given to Loaves and Fishes for feeding seniors, $100 donated to Library for propane, and enough products to make 100 hygiene packets was delivered to the Siskiyou Domestic Violence Center for distribution to their clients, usually battered women.

  • We purchased the materials and built shelves for the Salvation Army so volunteers making up food baskets didn’t have to work off the floor.

  • Supported the Montague Balloon Festival by doing a Bar-B-Que dinner and melodrama on Friday night. Helped them sell tickets.

  • This club participated in the annual Fort Jones Christmas Parade with a float. The floats theme; 100 years of Service.

  • Petitioned the City of Etna, Town of Fort Jones and the County of Siskiyou and got declarations honoring Rotary’s 100 years of Service.

  • For international service; we directed additional funds to the WCS project for an Orphanage in Guatemala , Bikes for Bali project and over $2500 for Tsunami relief.

  • Recruited and sent Rebecca Sluss with the GSE team to Dominican Republic and hosted the in-bound team from the Dominican Republic as well.

  •  To increase the club’s outreach and also support literacy, dictionaries were purchased and distributed to each third grade student the area. These dictionaries were also used as “Speakers Gifts’ by memorializing each speaker on the book label.
