Inaugurated in 1993 as a combination fundraiser and service project,
the Festival of lights provides a holiday-time, family-oriented evening
of entertainment. It is the largest all-volunteer not-for-profit holiday
light display in the Northwest and the second largest drive-through display.
Starting at Thanksgiving and running through the first week after New Year,
the Festival displays over 200,000 lights on over 75 displays. Many of
the displays are animations of childrens stories, nursery rhymes, and cartoon
characters. The displays are found on a one and one half mile drive through
the beautiful Riverforks Park, west of Roseburg. Festival proceeds help
fund Rotary Club scholarships to deserving high school seniors, and such
community programs like Parents Relief Nursery, Scouting, Roseburg Rescue
Mission, and others. Major recipients of grants from past years have been The Open Door Clinic, Start Making a Reader Today (SMART), and the
Umpqua Valley Arts-In-Education program.
