Rotary Short-Term Youth Exchange Program

District 5110 offers an opportunity for candidates ages 15 - 19 to participate in Short-Term Exchange Programs during the summer.  If you know a student this age who would like to travel to a country outside the United States and stay with a candidate of the same age and his/her family for up to four weeks, this is the opportunity of a lifetime.

The student should complete a Short-Term application (available online at www.district 5110.org  (downloads).  A local Rotarian will interview the student and parents to prescreen them for a recommendation.  The candidate must complete all the required documents on the application checklist.  The three applications are then returned to the local Rotarian for witnessing signatures and completion of the required information.  Documents are then mailed to Penny Cole, Short-Term Exchange Program coordinator, 1690 NW Hopper Street, Roseburg, OR  97471 for placement.  You may contact Penny at 541-673-0818 or 541-672-0758 or e-mail her at colepn@cmspan.net.  Deadline for applications is March 30, 2010.

Rotary Youth Leadership Awards Camp Scholarships

Rotary Club of Lincoln City provides scholarships for sophomores to attend  RYLA Camp.   The six-day camp was organized in 1991 with the leadership of Dick Plummer, a local Rotarian.  Four scholarships are offered each year to sophomores who qualify and are eager to learn leadership skills.  As many as 140 Oregon kids participate in leadership training and the adoption of the Rotary Four-Way Test each year and the "Service Above Self" philosophy.

If you would like to learn more about this camp, go on-line to district5110.org/committee/RYLA and check out RYLA and download an application.  The primary focus of the 2010 camp will be to strengthen relationships between Rotarians and RYLArians and to integrate students with Interact.  Students can check with their school counselor for applications to attend RYLA during the month of June each year.  Deadline to apply is usually the last day of April.
