District 5110 offers an opportunity for candidates ages 15 - 19 to participate in Short-Term Exchange Programs during the summer. If you know a student this age who would like to travel to a country outside the United States and stay with a candidate of the same age and his/her family for up to four weeks, this is the opportunity of a lifetime. The student should complete a Short-Term application (available online at www.district 5110.org (downloads). A local Rotarian will interview the student and parents to prescreen them for a recommendation. The candidate must complete all the required documents on the application checklist. The three applications are then returned to the local Rotarian for witnessing signatures and completion of the required information. Documents are then mailed to Penny Cole, Short-Term Exchange Program coordinator, 1690 NW Hopper Street, Roseburg, OR 97471 for placement. Rotary Club of Lincoln City provides scholarships for high school graduating students continuing on with their education. Requirements are flexible. All students are considered after completion of an application, and the selected candidates are interviewed by the Rotarian Scholarship Committee. Applications can be obtained from your high school counselor. If you need assistance completing the application, please check with your counselor, or e-mail Linda Burt, Rotary Secretary at jlburt1075@charter.net and she will assist you or seek a Rotarian to do so. It's easier than you think! To obtain your scholarship funds, students must submit to Rotary Club of Lincoln City an official transcript after completion of the first successful your first year of study. Transcripts can be mailed to Rotary Club of Lincoln City, Post Office Box 522, Lincoln City, OR 97367. To obtain an official transcript, go to the OCCC Student Services Office or call 541-867-8503 to order your transcript.
Rotary Club of Lincoln City provides scholarships for sophomores to attend RYLA Camp. The six-day camp was organized in 1991 with the leadership of Dick Plummer, a local Rotarian. Four scholarships are offered each year to sophomores who qualify and are eager to learn leadership skills. As many as 140 Oregon kids participate in leadership training and the adoption of the Rotary Four-Way Test each year and the "Service Above Self" philosophy. If you would like to learn more about this camp, go on-line to district5110.org/committee/RYLA and check out RYLA and download an application. The primary focus of the 2010 camp will be to strengthen relationships between Rotarians and RYLArians and to integrate students with Interact. Students can check with their school counselor for applications to attend RYLA during the month of June each year. Deadline to apply is usually the last day of April. |
