The Rotary Foundation
The Rotary Foundation of Rotary International is a non-profit
corporation, and its mission is to support the efforts of RI to
achieve "world understanding and peace through local, national,
and international humanitarian, educational, and cultural
programs."
Southtowne club members know the Foundation best through the
Polio eradication fund, and by their participation in the Paul
Harris Fellowship programs. But the Foundation has a broader
outreach through many more programs, and through these programs
has had a tremendous impact on the needy in the world.
The Foundation is famous for getting all of the money contributed
out and working for those in need.
A contribution of $100 provides textbooks in Africa, aid for
reforestation in Central America, and blankets for the elderly in
parts of the third world. A $500 contribution will provide
prosthetic limbs to 12 people in Thailand and Cambodia, and up to
five sewing machines for poor women of Mexico to start micro
businesses and support themselves.
In year 2004-2005, Rotary International has adopted a "every
Rotarian, every year" program, with the goal of getting every
Rotarian worldwide to contribute $100 annually to the Foundation.
All of us have demands on our giving budgets; but most of us have
have a budget for giving?
And Southtowne members have given almost $400,000 to the
Foundation over the years. Our past and future giving to the
Rotary Foundation will make a difference in the world.
Participation in the Rotary Foundation is a corner stone of
public service for the members of Southtowne Rotary Club.
